For comprehensive braces treatment at Evergreen Orthodontics, the cost is between $6500 and $7980, but it can be less for limited or single arch cases. The cost varies on the complexity of you or your child's case. KLOwen braces are uniquely, custom-designed for your teeth before they are bonded to your teeth. With standard braces, an orthodontist uses one-size brackets and bends the wires by hand at each visit. With KLOwen, Dr. Lotz plans every tooth movement digitally first, and the brackets and wires are made to match that plan. In practice that means fewer visits, less wire-bending, and for many patients a shorter time in braces. Dr. Lotz chose the system because it lets her put the precision she'd use on an aligner case into braces. You'll still have the metal (or clear) brackets you'd expect, just ones that were built for you.

Getting braces on shouldn't hurt. Your teeth might feel sore for three or four days after, and for a day or so after each adjustment.  Think of the way muscles feel after a new workout. Soft food and orthodontic wax for any sore spot is all most people need. Most of our patients stop actively noticing the braces within two weeks.

In general, it is better to avoid anything hard, sticky, or that you'd bite into with your front teeth. The short list: popcorn, hard candy, ice, caramel, gum, whole apples and corn on the cob (cut them up instead), and chewy bagels. Pizza and chocolate are normally fine. Most of the time the question isn't what you can eat, but how: cut it smaller and chew with your back teeth. Following the foods to avoid rules helps ensure fewer broken brackets throughout treatment.

Expect an appointment every 8 to 12 weeks for most braces patients, which is less often than a lot of people think.. KLOwen's custom wires do more of the work between visits, so we don't need to see you as frequently. Appointments usually take 20 to 30 minutes. Our Wednesday and Thursday 7:30am slots exist so kids can be in school before first period.

Phase I is a short round of treatment, usually between ages 7 and 10, that can help guide jaw growth or makes room for adult teeth while a child still has mixed dentition (mix of permanent and baby teeth). Most kids will not need phase I treatment. Dr. Lotz only recommends phase I treatment when helping guide growth would make later treatment easier or there are development airway issues. An example would be a crossbite that's shifting the jaw, severe crowding, or front teeth sticking out far enough to be at risk in a fall. If your child doesn't need Phase I, we'll say so and put them on a observation schedule until the timing is right.

The clear brackets themselves, do not. They're made of a ceramic that stays tooth-colored through treatment. The tiny elastic ties that hold the wire can pick up color from coffee, tea, curry, or red sauce, but those get swapped for fresh ones at every visit, so any staining lasts a few weeks at most. If you're a heavy coffee drinker, mention it and we can use ties that resist staining better.
